What causes acne?
Acne is caused by a combination of factors, including excess oil production, clogged hair follicles, bacteria, and inflammation. Hormonal changes during puberty and the menstrual cycle can stimulate oil production and lead to breakouts. Genetics, certain medications, stress, and lifestyle choices may also cause acne. 1
Maintaining a healthy lifestyle and using skincare products or prescription acne treatments can help prevent breakouts.
Which treatment is best for acne?
When it comes to the best acne treatment for adults, there’s no one-size-fits-all solution. Over-the-counter products, prescription acne medications, professional treatments, and healthy skin care habits can help.

FAQs about the Contraceptive Pill
What is Acne?
Acne occurs when dead skin cells and oil block hair follicles, which allows bacteria to grow and causes inflammation and irritation. There are many forms of acne, including whiteheads, blackheads, pimples and cysts. Most people experience some form of acne in their lifetime, especially teenagers and women at specific times during their menstrual cycle. Acne ranges from occasional mild breakouts to severe, painful acne that occurs regularly. Mild breakouts may be treatable with over the counter products , while severe acne may require oral antibiotic therapy or an oral retinoid.1
What kind of treatments are available?
We work with Dermatologists who have extensive experience in acne treatments, using products they know and trust. Some of these include;
What treatment is right for me?
The best treatment for acne depends on your skin type and the root cause of your acne. Many people find that the occasional, mild pimple or breakout can be treated with over the counter pharmacy products, such as an acne spot treatment. Recurring mild to moderate acne may require a prescription topical treatment, such as a topical antibiotic or retinoids. Severe acne may require an oral antibiotic or retinoids. If you have sensitive skin or a condition like eczema or rosacea, you may need to use caution when choosing acne products. While there is not a single “best” treatment, our clinicians can help you to figure out what will work best for your particular situation.
How does it work?
- Apply your acne treatment once daily (at night!) after cleansing and before or after moisturising, depending on your skin’s sensitivity. Make sure you wash your hands well after applying.
- Due to the powerfully effective ingredients, you might start with a staggered application schedule—every third or every other night to start before working up to daily applications
- Start seeing improvement in just weeks, with full results after about 3 months
Am I guaranteed prescription acne treatment?
Our clinicians provide the highest standard of healthcare, which means that each patient is assessed on an individual basis. If our clinician determines that it is not safe for you to be prescribed your treatment, or believes that you should visit a GP in person to be further assessed, you will not be issued a prescription and they will provide you with some recommendations on next steps.
How long until a clinician responds?
A clinician will review your assessment and respond within 24 hours. In most cases it will be much sooner than this.
How much does it cost?
Your initial consultation costs $35. If you’re prescribed treatment, it’s $40 a month. We’ll send a new treatment each month so you won’t run out.
How fast will it be delivered and how is it packaged?
Once your treatment has been paid for, we will ship with express delivery to anywhere in Australia, meaning your package should arrive within 1-3 days. Your product is shipped in an Australia Post package, which means it will be completely discreet.
Do you handle my repeats?
Yes, we will ship you a new treatment each month so you never run out.
Can I speak to the support team at any time?
Of course! If you log into your profile and head to the ‘Products’ tab, you will see a ‘Manage Treatment’ button. Click this and you’ll see the ability to send a message to our Patient Support team. If you’re having any issues, just drop us a line at [email protected]
